What is PRGF (PRP) Injection?
Also known as: Plasma Rich in Growth Factors injection, PRP injection, autologous platelet-rich plasma, leukocyte-poor PRP, intra-articular platelet injection, intratendinous PRP, growth factor injection, regenerative orthobiologics, autologous platelet therapy
PRGF (Plasma Rich in Growth Factors) is the standardised, leukocyte-free autologous platelet protocol developed by BTI Biotechnology Institute (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain). Generic "PRP" varies in preparation, platelet concentration, leukocyte content, and activator. PRGF differs in protocol, characterisation, and regulatory file: a closed, single-step centrifugation that yields two plasma fractions (F1 at 1 to 1.5x platelet concentration, F2 at 2 to 3x and leukocyte-free), activated with calcium chloride immediately before infiltration.
In Cyprus, PRGF is administered using the Endoret® system, distributed exclusively by OrganoGEN. A small autologous blood draw is processed on-site, activated, and infiltrated at the target joint, tendon, or soft-tissue lesion. Typical clinic visit is under 60 minutes end-to-end. The technology has been used clinically since 1999, the first PRP-class biologic published for musculoskeletal indications.
