Sports Medicine Surgery

Arthroscopic repair and reconstruction of ligament, tendon, and cartilage injuries using the AUXILOCK® implant system. Comprehensive coverage of the knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, foot and ankle, and hand and wrist. GESY-covered.

What is Sports Medicine Surgery?

Also known as: Arthroscopic surgery, Ligament reconstruction, Tendon repair, Suture-anchor repair, Knee and shoulder arthroscopy, AUXILOCK suture anchors, Knotless rotator cuff repair, ACL interference screw fixation, Arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation

Sports medicine surgery is the surgical repair and reconstruction of injuries to the ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and other soft-tissue structures of the joints, most often after a sporting or occupational injury. The defining technique is arthroscopy: small portal incisions, a camera and instruments inside the joint, and fixation devices placed through the same portals. The minimally-invasive approach reduces soft-tissue trauma, accelerates rehabilitation, and allows patients to begin protected motion within days of surgery rather than weeks.

In Cyprus, OrganoGEN is the exclusive distributor of AUXILOCK®, the sports-medicine implant line from Auxein Medical (Sonepat, Haryana, India), with international offices in the United States, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates. The AUXILOCK® portfolio covers the full sports-medicine procedure set across knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, foot and ankle, and hand and wrist, with around 50 implant SKUs spanning suture anchors (knotted and knotless), cortical fixation buttons, interference screws, ligament staples, meniscal repair systems, BioBraid sutures and suture tapes, and the Protean® silicon cannula.

AUXILOCK® implants are produced from four medical-grade materials: Ti6Al-4V ELI titanium per ASTM F-136 (tensile strength 860 MPa), PEEK-OPTIMA™ thermoplastic from Invibio (UK) per ASTM F-2026, carbon-fibre reinforced PEEK CF with mechanical properties closer to cortical bone than natural PEEK or PLLA, and UHMWPE sutures and tapes per ASTM F-2848-17. PEEK and UHMWPE implants are radiolucent and MRI-safe, and PEEK variants offer revision ability through over-drilling.

Auxein manufactures at an ISO 14644 Class 10000 clean room facility, distributing across more than 75 countries. The full AUXILOCK® line carries CE Mark Class IIb under EU MDR 2017/745, US FDA 510(k) clearance, MDSAP (Medical Device Single Audit Program) compliance, ISO 13485:2016 quality management, and Indian CDSCO approval.

Am I a candidate?

Good candidates

  • Symptomatic ligament tears (ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL, lateral ankle complex) failing conservative therapy
  • Repairable meniscal tears in vascular zones
  • Full-thickness or high-grade partial-thickness rotator cuff tears
  • Recurrent shoulder instability with Bankart, bony Bankart, or HAGL lesion
  • Full Achilles tendon rupture in active patients
  • Hip labral tears with mechanical symptoms
  • Patients seeking early return to sport or occupational duties

Patients in whom another option may be preferred

  • Active intra-articular infection
  • Severe degenerative joint disease where reconstruction is unlikely to restore function (joint replacement may be more appropriate)
  • Skeletally immature patients in selected procedures (per surgeon judgement)
  • Patient-specific contraindications to elective arthroscopic surgery

GESY coverage & out-of-pocket cost

For Cyprus residents enrolled in GESY, sports-medicine surgery using the AUXILOCK® system is GESY-covered when performed by a participating surgeon at a GESY-contracted hospital. The cost of the implant is included in the hospital reimbursement and patients are not billed separately.

The exact procedure-by-procedure GESY status varies by ZC code. Contact us for current coverage on a specific indication, or for a hospital quotation if you are a self-pay or international patient.
