In One Paragraph

The XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System is a titanium plate-and-screw system for fixation of fractures of small bones and small bone fragments of the hand. Two plate series, HS1.5 (0.8 mm thick, green) and HS2.0 (1.0 mm thick, blue), share seven shapes. Self-tapping screws from Ø 1.5 to 2.2 mm come in two head designs: the Standard screw for polyaxial locking and the Conic eXtreme screw for angle-stable locking. The plates and screws are CE-marked under EU MDR 2017/745 as Class IIb (notified body 0483). Manufactured by Hofer Medical Solutions in Fürstenfeld, Austria, and distributed in Cyprus by OrganoGEN, Hofer's exclusive Cyprus distributor. The system is GESY-covered for metacarpal and phalangeal fractures. Other uses are confirmed case by case with OrganoGEN.

Overview

The XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System is Hofer Medical Solutions' titanium plate-and-screw system for the hand. Its intended use, in Hofer's instructions for use, is fixation of fractures of small bones and small bone fragments of the hand. XS is Hofer's size class for minifragment implants, and Hofer describes the system as multidirectional and angle-stable, based on the internal fixator principle.

The plates come in two series with the same seven shapes. HS1.5 plates are 0.8 mm thick and coloured green; HS2.0 plates are 1.0 mm thick and coloured blue. Each series has 14 plates (straight, two-row lattice, shifted two-row lattice in left and right versions, T, Y, Z and X) with 4 to 13 holes, plus a washer. The plates are pre-shaped and low-profile. They can be re-contoured only between the holes, with bending pliers before implantation and bending sticks during it.

The self-tapping titanium screws come in Ø 1.5, 1.7, 2.0 and 2.2 mm, all with a 2.5 mm head and a ForceDRIVE T6 drive. Two head designs set the locking: the INTEOS® Standard screw locks polyaxially and the INTEOS® Conic eXtreme screw gives angle-stable locking. Hofer states that all screws are compatible with all plates. The system is part of the Hofer Osteosynthesis range, used in internal osteosynthesis of hand fractures.

Manufactured by Hofer Medical Solutions in Fürstenfeld, Austria, and distributed in Cyprus by OrganoGEN, Hofer's exclusive Cyprus distributor. The XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System is GESY-covered for metacarpal and phalangeal fractures. Other uses are confirmed case by case with OrganoGEN.

Frequently asked questions

What is the XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System indicated for?
Hofer's instructions for use give one indication: fixation of fractures of small bones and small bone fragments of the hand. Hofer lists two absolute contraindications: known or suspected sensitivity to the implant material, and application on the spine.
Which plates does the XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System include?
Two series in the same seven shapes: HS1.5 plates, 0.8 mm thick (green), and HS2.0 plates, 1.0 mm thick (blue). The plates are pre-shaped and can be re-contoured only between the holes, with bending pliers before implantation and bending sticks during it.
Which screws does the XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System use, and how do they lock?
Self-tapping titanium screws in Ø 1.5, 1.7, 2.0 and 2.2 mm, all with a ForceDRIVE T6 drive. Hofer offers two head designs: the INTEOS® Standard screw locks polyaxially and the INTEOS® Conic eXtreme screw gives angle-stable locking. Hofer states that all screws are compatible with all plates. Separately, Hofer describes the screws as having a "StickFIT" function, which holds the screw on the screwdriver tip. That is screw retention, not part of the locking.
Is the XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System CE-marked?
Yes. The plates and screws are CE-marked under EU MDR 2017/745 as Class IIb (notified body 0483).
Is the XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System covered by GESY in Cyprus?
Yes. The system is GESY-covered for metacarpal and phalangeal fractures when implanted by a participating surgeon at a GESY-contracted hospital. Other uses are confirmed case by case with OrganoGEN. For self-pay or international patients, OrganoGEN provides hospital quotations on request.
Who manufactures the XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System?
Hofer GmbH & Co KG, trading as Hofer Medical Solutions, in Fürstenfeld, Austria. The system is distributed in Cyprus by OrganoGEN, Hofer's exclusive Cyprus distributor.
How does the XS-INTEOS® Minifragment System relate to the Hofer Osteosynthesis range?
Hofer groups its plate systems by size: XS is the minifragment system, and sizes S, M and L are its small-fragment systems. Earlier Hofer documents call it the HS1.5 & HS2.0 Mini Fragment System, after its two plate series. The wider Hofer locking-plate portfolio is on the Hofer Osteosynthesis page, and the operation itself is described under internal osteosynthesis.
